sanshi no mushi 三尸の虫と伝説 Legends about the three worms

For children, there are some "mushi" connected with illness like the
san-shi no mushi 三尸の虫

kan no mushi 疳の虫 / 癇 insect of nervousness, short-temperedness
nakimushi 泣き虫 insect of crying too much
hara no mushi 腹の虫 insect causing diarrhea

. medicine for kan no mushi 疳の虫 .

. Koshin shinko 庚申信仰 Koshin Shinko belief .

- quote -

The sanshi 三尸 "Three Corpses" or sanchong 三蟲 "Three Worms"
are a Daoist physiological belief that demonic creatures live inside the human body, and they seek to hasten the death of their host.
These three supernatural parasites allegedly enter the person at birth, and reside in the three dantian "energy centers", respectively located within the head, chest, and abdomen. After their human host dies, they are freed from the body and become malevolent ghosts. ...
- Japanese Kōshin
The Japanese folk tradition of 庚申 Kōshin ("57th of the 60-day cycle") combines the Daoist Three Corpses with Shintō and Buddhist beliefs, including the Three Wise Monkeys.
People attend Kōshin-Machi 庚申待 "57th Day Waiting" events to stay awake all night and prevent the Sanshi 三尸 "Three Corpses" from leaving the body and reporting misdeeds to heaven.

If one sleeps on the 庚申の日 Koshin Day, the 三尸 three worms come out of the human body and go to heaven.
They report to Ten no Kami 天の神 the God of Heaven about the good and bad deeds of the human, so he/she can be punished.
To prevent these worms to go to heaven, people try not to sleep on this night.
People who do not sleep will live longer.

Other names: Hikonagisatake ugayafukiaezu no mikoto (Kojiki)

The son of Hohodemi (Ninigi's son) and Toyotamabime (Watatsumi's daughter);
the father of Emperor Jinmu. Ugayafukiaezu's name ("cormorant-rush-thatching-unfinished") is associated with the events of his birth; according to an "alternate writing" related by Nihongi, the name was given by his mother Toyotamabime. As an offspring of the imperial grandchild by a sea goddess, he was born within a parturition hut built beside the seashore. But his mother's labor began before the parturition hut was fully thatched with cormorant feathers, and Toyotamabime was seen in labor by Ninigi. In humiliation, Toyotamabime wrapped the newborn child in grass, and abandoned him by the seashore, where he was found and raised by Toyotamabime's sister Tamayoribime.
According to another "alternate writing" of Nihongi,
Toyotamabime could not bring herself to abandon the child, and took him up and returned with him to her palace in the sea. Since she felt it unfit that an offspring of the Heavenly Grandchild be raised within the sea, however, she gave him to her sister Tamayoribime to be taken to the land. Ugayafukiaezu later married his aunt Tamayoribime and fathered the kami Itsuse no mikoto, Inahi no mikoto, Mikenu no mikoto, and Kamuyamatoiwarebiko (Emperor Jinmu).

'Amabie'-shaped bread popular amid outbreak
Bread shaped like a mythical mermaid-like monster that folklore says repels plagues is proving popular in Japan as people hope for the end of the coronavirus outbreak.
A cafe in the city of Uruma,
Okinawa Prefecture, started selling the bread, which looks like Amabie, last month.
The bread is made from locally-sourced ingredients,
including yellow potato for the monster's long hair and beak, and red sweet potato for the body.
The cafe has closed temporarily
since early last month due to the outbreak. But orders have been pouring in from across the country after it began selling the product online.
A representative of the cafe says
she hopes the bread will make people smile and help boost their immunity so that the outbreak will end as soon as possible.

Ōmi Province (近江国, Ōmi no kuni, Omi no Kuni)
is an old province of Japan, which today comprises Shiga Prefecture. It was one of the provinces that made up the Tōsandō circuit. Its nickname is Gōshū (江州).
Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake, is located at the center of the province. "Ōmi" came from awaumi or "fresh-water sea" and the kanji of "Ōmi" (近江) means "an inlet near the capital" (See also Tōtōmi Province).
The ancient capital was near Ōtsu, which was also a major castle town. In north of Otsu, one of the most important monastery Enryaku-ji is located on Mount Hiei.
- History
... Hōjō Tokimasa, the first shikken of the Kamakura shogunate, was made daimyō of Ōmi Province in the 10th month of Shōji 2 (1200).
During the Sengoku period, the northern part of the province was the fief of Ishida Mitsunari, Tokugawa Ieyasu's opponent at the Battle of Sekigahara, although he spent most of his time in Osaka Castle administering the fief of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's young son. After Ishida's defeat, Tokugawa granted the fief to his allies, the Ii clan, who built the castle and town of Hikone from the ruins of Sawayama.

Wakasa Province (若狭国, Wakasa-no-kuni) Wakasa no Kuni
was a province of Japan in the area that is today the southwestern portion of Fukui Prefecture in the Hokuriku region of Japan. Wakasa bordered on Echizen, Ōmi, Tanba, Tango, and Yamashiro Provinces. It was part of Hokurikudō Circuit. Its abbreviated form name was Jakushū (若州). Under the Engishiki classification system, Wakasa was ranked as a "medium country" (中国) and a near country (近国) in terms of its importance and distance from the capital.
- History - Ancient and classical Wakasa
Wakasa existed as a political entity before the Ritsuryō system and the implementation of the Taihō Code of the Nara period. Wooden shipping tags labelled "Wakasa" have been found in the ruins of Fujiwara-kyō. Per the Nihon Shoki, ancient Wakasa was governed by a Kuni no miyatsuko, who was a descendant of Amenohiboko, a semi-legendary prince of Shilla, who settled in Tajima province during the reign of Emperor Suinin. There are archaeological indications that Wakasa was under control of the Yamato state from the mid-4th century. The province of Wakasa was formally established with the creation of the Ritsuryō provincial system around 701 AD, and initially consisted of the two districts of Onyū and Mikata. In 825 AD, Ōi was separated from Onyū.
During the Nara and Heian periods,
Wakasa was an important source of sea products (salt, fish and konbu) to the aristocracy of the capital, so much so that the province was nicknamed Miketsu Province (御食国, Miketsu-no-kuni). Salt production was especially and important industry. Wakasa was also a strategically important province due to its seaport on the Sea of Japan and was the closest ocean harbour to Kyoto .
The exact location of the provincial capital of Wakasa is unknown, but is believed to have been in what is now the city of Obama. The Wakasa Kokubun-ji and the ichinomiya of Wakasa, the Wakasahiko Shrine are also located in Obama.

新八明神 Deity Shinpachi Myojin
Shinpachi was the second son of a farmer working for the Samurai 白石運三郎 Shiroishi Unsaburo. He worked diligently.
The wife of his older brother was quite a villain and was bad to her stepfather.
Around 1815, his sister-in-law prepared 大師講の団子 dumplings for the Daishi rituals and put some needles in them.
When Shinpachi offered a dumpling to his father, the needle stuck out. The sister-in-law went to the daikan 代官 assistant deputy governor and accused Shinpachi for having tried to kill his father. Shinpachi tried to cover for his sister-in-law, did not tell the truth and was executed as punishment.
Before he died he said: "If my head falls to the north when cut off, I am innocent and will curse you!"
Soon after that the family of Shinpachi fell into ruin.
The villagers erected a memorial stone for him along the Iwadeyama Highway near the river 花川 Hanakawa with the inscription "Shinpachi Myojin".
