Takaoka Mikuruma-yama Festival
The Takaoka mikuruma-yamas (wheeled float) carried in this festival are apparently based on the court carriage used by Hideyoshi Toyotomi to welcome Emperor Go-Yozei and Retired Emperor Ogimachi to Jurakudai in 1588.
After Toshie Maeda received it as a gift, Toshinaga Maeda gave it to the townspeople in 1609 when he was building Takaoka Castle. A barrel roof was added to the carriage to make the current mikurama-yama.
Supported by the spirit and wealth of the Takaoka townspeople, this is one of Japan's most gorgeous hikiyama festival floats, with wheels decorated using superb local craft techniques, such as metalwork, lacquer ware and dyeing.

Nikko 日光 と伝説 Legends about Nikko
二荒山 Mount Futarasan

jatai no kami 蛇体の神 The Snake Deity
mukade no kami ムカデの神 The Centipede Deity

These two animal deities fought at Senjōgahara 戦場ヶ原 Senjogahara, the "Battlefield" marshland in Nikko.
They were the vassals of the deity of 男体山 Nantaisan in Chuzenji and the deity from 赤城山 Akagisan.
Now there is an Akanuma 赤沼 "Red swamp" of the blood from the Mukade.

There are other place names relating to these mythological events in Nikko.

EDO - Hasui Fukagawa Ikegami

https://edoflourishing.blogspot.com/2015/10/ikegami-honmonji.html

Ikegami Hommonji also has a five-storied pagoda.
Though there are many temples in Edo, only a few have pagodas, and the one at Ikegami Hommonji is one of the most magnificent. It originally served as a watchtower for the Hokke monks, who were able to scan the Tama valley for any signs that their enemies and persecutors were approaching. Nowadays, though, it is just another decoration in this rich and elaborate temple complex. Although there are many other large temples in Edo, the beautiful rural surroundings and delightful scenery of Ikegami Hommonji make it perhaps the most pleasant and refreshing place to go for a quiet moment of reflection and prayer.

Written in 1693 元禄6年冬
The Great Bridge of Fukagawa 深川大橋 over the Sumida river 隅田川 had been under construction.
Basho took a great interest in the waterways of Edo, he had been working for the waterworks government department for a while.

Later, when the bridge was finished, he expressed his joy in another hokku:

皆出でて橋を戴く霜路哉
mina idete hashi o itadaku shimoji kana

everybody comes out
to use the new bridge
and the frosty road . . .

Tr. Gabi Greve

Written on the 7th day of the 12th lunar month in 1693, 元禄6年12月7日
On the 8th day 12月8日, the bridge was named Shin Oohashi 新大橋 Shin Ohashi "New Big Bridge".
Finally it was named Shin Ryoogokubashi 新両国橋. Shin Ryogoku-bashi.

This hokku has the cut marker KANA at the end of line 3.
hashi o itadaku - "to partake of the bridge", to use the bridge in gratitude, since now it was possible to reach the other shore without a great detour to find another bridge.

MINGEI - Joboji Laquer ware

Temple Jobo-Ji

..............................................................................................................................................

Jooboji nuri 浄法寺塗 Joboji nuri laquer ware
Iwate

- quote -
Joboji Nuri takes its name from the Joboji family which ruled the northern part of Iwate Prefecture during the middle ages, and it is also the name of the area.
According to local legend, monks were dispatched there from the head temple, when a famous high priest called Gyoki built Tendaiji temple in the area during the Nara period (710-794). Lacquer ware techniques were apparently introduced at the time, so that the monks would be able to make their own tableware.
A product important to the ruling Nambu clan during the Edo period (1600-1868), the making of Joboji-Nuri spread from around Tendaiji temple to the adjoining area now known as 安代町 Ajiro-cho and became known as 御山御器(おやまごき Oyama-goki ware. This larger area became the foundation of the present production.
Items of lacquer ware
which have been used since ancient times such as soup bowls, rice bowls and lipped bowls are still being made. Some of the traditional bowls are patterned but most of them are finished in plain vermilion, black or a clear lacquer to show off the wood and have a sophisticated mat finish. But perhaps the biggest feature of Joboji ware is its everlasting sense of quality stemming from a use of quality materials. Bowls for soup or rice, trays, flower vases are the main products today.
